Can each of you take it in turns telling the other of a time when you felt wounded by a loved one? It is best if the speaker tries to be very specific about the hurt that was sustained and how this hurt damaged that relationship.
Each of you then tries, with the other’s help, to formulate what kind of conversation, apology and new connection you would have liked to occur with the loved one who wounded you. As you listen to each other, see if you can pinpoint what would have made or would still make a difference in terms of healing this wound.
Each partner then reflects on and shares how hard/easy it is to openly apologize and what it is that makes this difficult.
Each of you now shares a time or an incident in your relationship when you believe that you hurt your partner. As honestly as you can, pinpoint how you tried to cope with this awareness and repair the rift in your bond. Your partner then shares whether this reparative action was successful in healing this wound and if not, briefly outlines one response that would have allowed him/her to begin to let go of the hurt around this incident.
